1987 & 2014
This past autumn I took a trip to Santa Fe to do a one-on-one dream intensive with a Jungian analyst. I made my first visit to the city in August of 1987, the year and month my teacher relocated there from San Francisco.
Half a year before my 1987 trip I had a Big Dream: a powerful, fiery beam of energy travels through black space, piercing the atmosphere and surface of the earth, exiting the other side of the blue planet. I am close to the beam and it knocks me silly. Literally. The dream tells me it will take many years to recover my balance. True enough.
At my arrival in August of 1987, the Albuquerque airport was full of posters announcing events celebrating the “Harmonic Convergence.” I’d never heard of such a thing back home in Minneapolis. On a whim I rented the last available car and drove 40 miles on a single-lane dirt road to a ceremony held at Chaco Canyon. I had fun mixing with the Deadheads but noticed no shift in my own personal energy field.
I shared this dream with my teacher. She said that in August of 1987, when she was driving east into Santa Fe in her moving van, she saw a giant, vertical beam of light in the form of a rainbow. She has never forgotten that vision.
The last dreamwork my teacher and I did together was a visit to the “Cloud Beings of the Star Nations.” One of my recurring dreams from childhood is meeting with blue beings (a dream in my 30s even provided physical evidence of something beyond the realm of imagination). When I walked outside after this final session, a luminous white orb hung in the western sky. Smaller than the moon, bigger than a planet. The local TV news said it was a science balloon. I found its presence inspiring nonetheless.
My 2014 flight home from Santa Fe was on a very overcast Monday. Thunderclouds were building on top of the Sandia and Sangre de Christo mountains. Our pilot announced that we should remain seated, as we could encounter turbulence.
I am a fretful flyer on clear days, so I composed an internal prayer to the Cloud Beings for safe passage. I watched from my window seat as the plane climbed and climbed into the purple thunderheads. Then I looked down. A huge, horizontal rainbow stripe lay across the side of a mountain. A brilliant blanket of colored light. The flight was completely calm. No turbulence, nothing to fear.
