Becoming the Vortex

Dervish with lion and tiger
Dervish (non-whirling) with lion and tiger

A couple of weeks ago I dreamt of having bed-spins. As if I’d been drinking wine, which I had not. But in my dream I admonished myself for imbibing.

Last Wednesday I woke up with intense vertigo. My body, which had been resting peacefully during slumber, turned into a drill bit spinning at full rpm the moment I opened my eyes.

I’d been to T’ai Chi class the night before where I experienced powerful kundalini sensations. A fiery heat burned through my torso and up through the top of my head for several minutes. During the first day of vertigo I would close my eyes and see incredible psychedelic images. I could “trace” how each thought was transformed into a brilliant pattern of color and light.

I was highly anxious about going back to T’ai Chi this week because my balance is still impaired. The lessons take place at the Friends Meeting House, which has beautiful hardwood floors. I feared falling on my head.

It turned out that I was the only student for the 7:30 session. I told Sifu Rob about the vertigo. Before I even brought up the kundalini episode he understood that it was chi (kundalini) which had triggered the vertigo. He explained that my experience is quite normal in T’ai Chi practice. And he said there is a global energy shift going on right now that is affecting many people. He himself had physical sensations the previous night which he had never felt before. He said my personal vibrational shift is causing new pathways to be created in my brain and in my body. It sounds like New Age bullshit till it happens to you.

He found it interesting, and telling, that my body was spinning on the axis of my spine, not as if lying flat on a turntable. The spine is called the plumb-line in T’ai Chi and much of the practice is directed toward keeping the spine “open” to receive energy from earth and sky.

Was my recent dream of “Direct Transmission” precognitive of this private, healing lesson?

  1. That is so interesting. I am glad you got to talk to your teacher about this. It can be scary not knowing. Have you had any more spinning?

  2. If I’m not careful with my movements I still spin. Whirling dervish. I think the experience I had at the past life regression was also kundalini/chi.
