10/2/22 Two Short Dreams

  1. Introducing Jean and Vern Mikkelson to a Young, Great Nephew

I introduce Jean and Vern Mikkelson to a young, great nephew at a large gathering of people. I tell Jean about my family of origin and all the kids that have been born since she and Vern have died. Feeling: pleasant

Notes: Jean and Vern lived in the neighborhood where I grew up. I used to babysit for their oldest son, Tommy. Vern played basketball for the Lakers. Jean had a great sense of humor and would get my mom to laugh.

2. A Beautiful, Young Woman gets stabbed in the Back

A beautiful, young woman with special powers gets stabbed two times in the back. A couple of men do this to her. She falls down on the ground onto her stomach. The two knives are left in her back. The two men stand back.

Her spirit then creates this “dance” behind a shear curtain. Her spirit dances with 10 or so other spirits. The dance is to get the men to take out the knives so she can live.

Day Notes: Jeanne and Tom are here for the weekend. We had a nice walk in the woods and a beautiful bonfire. Lots of talking. Tom and Jeanne also asked a question and pulled a Tarot card. We worked with the card like we would a dream. Both cards referred to having good boundaries. Tom’s was the 5 of Pentacles and Jeanne’s was the Emperor. The washing machine broke at the townhouse and I worked on getting a handyman to go and fix it.

My Skillsets Include Painting and Saving Strays

(Thursday, October 6, 2022) waxing gibbous moon Pisces / tarot eight of cups

A recurring dream wakes me up early this morning. I’m in our historical house with Chris. He is lying comfortably in a double bed in one of the many bedrooms. I move from room to room and pull away wallpaper, pull away old carpet. One piece of paper on a ceiling reveals a large, decorative set of windows. Some are oval. Skylights.

Beneath the paper and rugs are completely restored wood floors and plaster walls. The structure of the house is strongly maintained. I tell Chris it is an easy task for me to paint the rooms in our home. We are both pleased that caring for the old building is something I can manage on my own.

I move to a large bedroom and notice several sets of open cabinets near the far wall. When I peek inside, I see many starving stray cats and kittens. I panic immediately and go to the kitchen to grab cans of food for the grieving, anxious felines. What a relief I have found them! I want them to thrive. One distinctive glass jar of food is highly decorative, almost Victorian in style. It seems medicinal.

The dream has many visual details that are very engaging, even when I wake up.

Day notes:

I spent time with coworkers yesterday and some of us discussed cats and strays. My friend Mary drove me home from the event and she commented on the beautiful houses in the neighborhood.

I had my quarterly meeting with my financial advisor and she told me not to worry about the repairs we have been making to the house. She says it will work out fine. We are waiting for the painter who did our porch to give us a bid for the eaves.

Because of the strays in the dream, I made a donation today to one of the animal rescue nonprofits I support, the Humane Society. In the evening a story came up on the news about 4,000 beagles they have saved.

Fragment: Childhood House

(Friday, September 30, 2022) waxing crescent Sagittarius / tarot two of cups

I am with my sister Jodell. We are at our childhood rambler in Fridley. It’s a blue-sky day. The hill the house sits on is much higher in the dream, almost mountainous. It keeps rising, slowly, gently.

We go inside the house. There is work to do, but Jodell is overwhelmed. Not me. I am comfortable with moving furniture and working on restoration projects in the rooms, particularly in the living room. Perhaps we are preparing to sell the house as part of the will. I don’t want my sister to be anxious. It feels natural for me to do the organization and design work, even though I am not expected to manage these chores.

Day notes:

I just spent some time with Jodell on Sunday at her Park Rapids lake home. She is the Personal Representative of our parents’ will. She was just diagnosed with osteopenia and was upset about that. I have had osteoporosis (worse) for quite a few years, so we talked about diet. We talked about the will, too. I think she will need help, but I’m not allowed to work with the will. My parents want my brother to be her assistant, although he does not want that responsibility. He helps with the lawn and snow and other things.

October 19: Bonnie sends me a video of a song Come On Up to the House.

Come On Up to the House (Tom Waits)

Well, the moon is broken and the sky is cracked
Come on up to the house
The only things that you can see is all that you lack
Come on up to the house

All your crying don’t do no good
Come on up to the house
Come down off the cross, we can use the wood
You gotta come on up to the house

Come on up to the house
Come on up to the house
The world is not my home
I’m just a-passing through
You got to come on up to the house

There’s no light in the tunnel, no irons in the fire
Come on up to the house
And you’re singing lead soprano in a junkman’s choir
You got to come on up to the house

Does life seem nasty, brutish and short
Come on up to the house
The seas are stormy and you can’t find no port
Got to come on up to the house, yeah

You gotta come on up to the house
Come on up to the house
The world is not my home I’m just a-passing through
You got to come on up to the house, yeah

You gotta come on up to the house
Come on up to the house
The world is not my home
I’m just a-passing through
You got to come on up to the house

There’s nothing in the world that you can do
You gotta come on up to the house
And you been whipped by the forces that are inside you
Gotta come on up to the house

Well, you’re high on top of your mountain of woe
Gotta come on up to the house
Well, you know you should surrender, but you can’t let it go
You gotta come on up to the house, yeah

Gotta come on up to the house
Gotta come on up to the house
The world is not my home I’m just a-passing through
You gotta come on up to the house

Gotta come on up to the house
You gotta come on up to the house
Yeah yeah yeah
