Journal: Homeless Families

(Tuesday, Independence Day, 2023) full moon Capricorn / tarot: Strength

During the past two days I have gone to Trader Joe’s in Edina and both times there were fathers sitting at the corner of the parking lot, holding signs about their precarious lives. Both had strollers holding small children in the 90 degree heat.

On Monday I forgot to grab some spinach for a recipe I am making today, so I walked a mile to Kowalski’s. There is always a homeless person standing or sitting on the sidewalk outside the door of the local grocery store. Yesterday it was a woman with brown skin. I saw her stroller, and when I went inside I grabbed a little money from the cash machine. I asked the cashier why there isn’t a shaded spot for the homeless but she had no answer. “Some people use umbrellas.” On my way out I was surprised to see the mother had a toddler and an infant. She was beginning to breastfeed her baby when I handed her a five and ten dollar bill.

I am never homeless in my dreams. Homeless people make me deeply sad. All of us deserve shelter, especially children.
