Voyage to Detroit Via The Inland Seas

(Sunday, October 5, 2014) Waxing gibbous moon in Pisces / ace of cups

My son Cullan, my sister-in-law Kathy and I are getting ready for a journey over water. We are heading to a hotel for a family event. Maybe a funeral, maybe a reunion: my dream recall is fuzzy. We meet briefly in a parking lot next to the harbor to discuss our itinerary. I have my phone ready to input the exact address into Google Maps but Kathy is in too big of a hurry and gives the city of Detroit as our final destination. I don’t even have hotel reservations. I’m frustrated but I figure I can call Cullan once we are underway to get more precise information.

We begin our journey in Chicago, on Lake Michigan. We will have to travel all the way up Lake Michigan and all the way down Lake Huron. We are traveling on large, flat barges. The barges rise only a few inches above the waterline. There is no railing or pole to hang onto for balance and support. This makes me fearful: the water is calm but what if a storm blows in? The barges move very rapidly. Each of us travels on a separate barge. Kathy and Cullan are far ahead of me. The sky is heavy and grey but a golden light shines along the horizon.

Day notes:

The mood of this dream reminds me of how Kathy informed us of the date and time of my mother-in-law’s funeral only four days in advance. The funeral was September 27 and Kay died August 26.

Why Detroit? Chris has family in Holland, Michigan and I have family in Flint and Ann Arbor.
